THE HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE
This is a very popular drink in China. Hot chocolate has a distinctive aroma and a spicy, sweet flavor. It is usually made from over 40 ingredients, such as coffee, cocoa powder, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and so on.
The origin of hot chocolate is difficult to trace, though its name comes from the Latin word “cacao” meaning cocoa. Some people believe that hot chocolate was first invented in Europe as early as 1100 A.D. in the region of Montezuma. But it is said that the Chinese invented hot chocolate about two thousand years ago.
Hot chocolate has been commonly served at Chinese New Year celebrations. According to Chinese legend, the character of the New Year is forged from a bowl of hot chocolate mixed with cream and pepper. In modern China, hot chocolate is a very important part of Chinese people’s daily diet. In the past, the flavor of hot chocolate was often cooked up on the table with the salt, pepper, water and vinegar. As time passed by, more and more ingredients were added to hot chocolate, such as honey, sugar, milk, beans, coffee and so on.
Whether it is for breakfast, brunch or dessert, hot chocolate is a must-have dish. It is not only made from hot milk, but also made from cold milk.
